LEAD1 Association Announces Membership Events and New Board Appointments for 2021

The Association announces dates for its three membership events in 2021, including virtual and in-person offerings, and the latest additions to its Board of Directors.

WASHINGTON, D.C. — The LEAD1 Association (“LEAD1”), which represents the athletics directors of the 130-member schools of the Football Bowl Subdivision (“FBS”), announced today the dates for three membership events in 2021, including two athletics director meetings and the LEAD1 Institute. The Association also announced the appointment of two new board members, Allen Greene, Director of Athletics at Auburn University, and Eddie Nuñez, Director of Athletics at University of New Mexico.

The spring athletics directors meeting will be held virtually on Wednesday, April 14, 2021 from 1-3pm EST. The LEAD1 Institute will also be held virtually as a “summer webinar series” beginning in late June through early July. Finally, the Association’s fall athletics director meeting, typically the largest gathering of FBS ADs nationwide, will be held in-person at the Conrad Hilton hotel in Washington, D.C. on Tuesday, September 21, 2021.

“With the health and safety of our community in mind, we ultimately made the decision to switch the spring AD meeting and Institute from an in-person event to an entirely virtual experience,” said Tom McMillen, President and CEO of LEAD1. “We fully anticipate our fall athletics director meeting to serve as the first in-person gathering of the industry’s most influential leaders since the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic. We are working diligently with the Conrad Hilton in Washington, D.C. to ensure this event meets all local, state, and national regulations to guarantee the health and safety of our members. We look forward to convening virtually in April and working to tackle the industry’s biggest issues over the coming months.”

More information related to registration and content for each of these events will become available over the coming months.

The Association also announced the appointment of two new board members.  Following the departure of Northwestern Vice President for Athletics, Jim Phillips, who will become the next Commissioner of the Atlantic Coast Conference (“ACC”), Allen Greene, Director of Athletics at Auburn University, will serve on LEAD1’s Executive Committee as 2ndVice Chair. Eddie Nuñez will also serve on the Executive Committee as an At-Large representative.

“Our Board of Directors is comprised of a dedicated team of industry leaders committed to providing strength, intelligence and sustainability for those in the college sports community,” said McMillen. “We are excited to channel Allen and Eddie’s talent, expertise and energy into furthering our mission.”
