Representatives from UNLV Athletics served as guest readers at local schools during Nevada Reading Week, which runs from Monday, Feb. 25 – Friday, March 1.
UNLV student-athletes, coaches and staff, including athletics director Desiree Reed-Francois, participated in the initiative throughout the course of the week.
Nevada Reading Week was established in 1987 as a statewide initiative for Nevada teachers and librarians to celebrate reading through shared thematic activities. The week-long celebration was created to encourage a love of reading by giving children opportunities to read and be read to, activities and competitions to engage both avid and reluctant readers, and theme-related experiences involving both the school and the community.
Youth reading represents a key area of focus for the community outreach efforts of UNLV Athletics.
