Bob Moosbrugger is the 14th Director of Athletics at Bowling Green University.
Moosbrugger, a 1994 graduate of Bowling Green, will leave his current post as Deputy Director of Athletics/Chief Operating Officer at San Diego State University. He started at San Diego State in March of 2000, beginning as the assistant director for the Aztec Athletic Foundation. He was promoted to assistant athletic director/director of the Aztec Foundation in 2004. From there, he was named the director of business development at the San Diego International Sports Council, serving from February 2006 until September 2007, before returning to the Aztecs as associate athletic director for development. He was promoted to his current position in June of 2015.
Prior to joining San Diego State, he held positions at Fresno State and Ball State University
A baseball player at BGSU, Moosbrugger earned the team’s Don Woods Award as the top freshman in 1991 and was a two- year letter winner. He came to Bowling Green following a strong scholastic career in baseball and football at Celina Senior High School.
He and his wife, Esther, have two sons, Andrew and Vincent.
As a member of the Mid-American Conference and the Western Collegiate Hockey Association, BGSU Athletics has a long and storied tradition of excellence in college sports. The Falcons won the 1984 NCAA Division I Hockey National Championship as well as the 1959 Small College Football National Title. More recently, BGSU Football has advanced to three consecutive MAC Championship games, winning the title in 2013 and 2015. Women’s cross country was the 2015 MAC runner-up and BGSU Gymnastics advanced to the NCAA regionals in 2016 for the first time in 25 years.
Off the field of competition, BGSU Athletics has been a leader academically. The program won the 2014-15 Women’s Faculty Athletics Representative Award, given to the program whose female teams excelled in the classroom. The 3.232 cumulative grade point average following the spring 2016 semester is the highest in recorded history, with 23 student- athletes earning a perfect 4.0 cumulative GPA and 81 recording a 4.0 term GPA during the spring semester. BGSU’s student- athletes accumulated 4,837 community service hours in 2015-16.
