LEAD1 Association Releases Statement on Recent Tragic Events in America

Association releases statement on behalf of its members.

WASHINGTON, D.C. — The LEAD1 Association (“LEAD1”), which represents the athletics directors of the 130-member schools of the Football Bowl Subdivision (“FBS”), today released the following statement regarding the recent tragic events in America.

“College athletics is a place where men and women assemble from all walks of life to work to achieve one common goal — to win. Each athlete, in their own unique way, makes a contribution to the team. Participants learn to respect and embrace the value of differences that their teammates bring, regardless of race, ethnicity, religion, sexual preference, and socioeconomic status. Sadly, recent events remind us that other parts of our society do not yet mirror these values. As leaders of college athletic programs across America, we strive to promote a culture in our communities where racism and inequality are not tolerated. But recent events of violence should never be an acceptable response. In the days and weeks ahead, we commit college athletics to be a positive influence in this national dialogue on race and equality.”
